Welcome to REAL Alternatives 4 Life - a learning programme for technicians working in the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump sector designed to improve skills and knowledge in safety, efficiency, reliability and containment of alternative refrigerants.  The programme provides a mix of interactive e-learning, printed training guides, tools, assessments for use by training providers and an e-library of additional resources signposted by users.  
 
It has been developed by the REAL Alternatives consortium of associations and training bodies from across Europe co-funded by the EU LIFE and LifeLongLearning Programmes with the support of industry stakeholders. Materials are available in Croatian, Czech, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Spanish and Turkish.

After you have read this Introduction you will be able to access only Module 1 - Introduction from the LEARNING PATHS icon.
You must complete Module 1 in order to view and access Module 2.
You must complete Module 2 in order to view and access the remaining Modules (3 to 9).

Modules

The e-learning programme consists of the following modules:

  1. Introduction to Alternative Refrigerants - safety, efficiency, reliability and good practice
  2. Safety and risk management
  3. System design using alternative refrigerants
  4. Containment and leak detection of alternative refrigerants
  5. Maintenance and repair of alternative refrigerant systems
  6. Retrofitting with low GWP refrigerants
  7. Checklist of legal obligations when working with alternative refrigerants
  8. Measuring the financial and environmental impact of leakage
  9. Tools and guidance for conducting site surveys

It is supported by:

  • an on line library of Addditional Resources
  • downloadable tools and templates (in the DOCUMENTS icon)

Note:

The E-Learning modules and PDF Booklets were revised in February 2018.

Additional Resources

Lists of recommended additional information are provided at the end of each module in case you want to find out more about a topic. These are often produced by manufacturers or specialist associations.  All material has been peer reviewed by our panel to ensure it provides good quality technical advice and information, which is more detailed than we can provide in our e-learning programme.  Inclusion as a link does not imply endorsement of products and there is no commercial links with any of the companies referred to. 

Certificate of completion

You can download a certificate of completion after you have completed all pages of all 9 of the e-learning modules.  The certificates are available from the Home Page menu on the left, under your user icon in the SKILLS and Certificates area.

Note: to achieve the full REAL Alternatives 4 LIFE CPD (Continued Professional Development) Certificate you must take a practical training course and assessment with one of our authorised training providers.
